Finn nodded and gave Rachel a small smile when she said that they would figure it out, although he could tell that she was less then pleased with everything that had been going on lately. His mom wasn’t even giving them any hints as to what was wrong and she seemed to think that the situation her dads were in justified what they had been doing to Rachel and that just ended up confusing him even more. He didn’t like that everyone seemed to think that they had to keep them in the dark. They were eighteen, they deserved to know what the hell was going on with everyone. “I know, you’re right, I’m just trying to stay positive in some way,” he said with a small sigh when she told him that considering everything hypothetically wasn’t going to make her feel any better since it would just lead to added stress. He nodded when she told him that she couldn’t see her dads without a confrontation right now and that they could tell and scream, but they couldn’t take her away from him if they were on the phone instead. “Yeah, that’s true. No one can take you from me,” he whispered, pressing a gentle kiss to her cheek before she pulled out her phone and called her dads. he watched Rachel throughout the whole conversation and he could tell that she was frustrated with whatever her dads were saying and he had no idea what was going on. Once she got off the phone and told him that it was an ‘adult problem’ and that they were handling it, he sighed. “I just don’t understand what it could be. Why aren’t we allowed to know? We’re adults now, we’re going to be married and living on our own in a few months, I don’t know if you can get any more adult then that,” he said with a sigh, knowing that this was frustrating her too. “Did they ask for you to come home? Do they hate me?” he asked her nervously, hoping that at least they could find a way to get to the bottom of this somehow. “We need to know what’s going on, it’s not fair that they’re keeping you in the dark,” he said, with a sigh, wrapping his arms around her and pulling her closely against him, pressing a gentle kiss to the top of her head. “I love you. We’re going to figure all of this out and get everything back to normal,” he whispered, knowing that he would do whatever it took just to make their problems go away and for everything to just go back to normal again.
Rachel wished that Carole would just tell her whatever reason her dads had for treating her like this, she didn’t want to talk to them directly and it would have been much easier to deal with if she could adjust to whatever news or attempted justification there was before she had to see them or talk to them. She finally settled on calling them to find out what was going on, even though she was dreading talking to them on the phone or in any other way because she was angry with them. They didn’t even tell her anything, which was frustrating for both her and Finn, who stayed with her while she was making the call. She felt like they were lying to her, and that they didn’t even love her anymore since they’d been disrespecting someone who was such a big part of her life. The things her dads had said about Finn bothered her so much, not because she thought they were true, but because she hated that they suddenly didn’t seem to like him. Her dads had gotten along with him from the very start, and he hadn’t done anything, so she didn’t know what had caused this sudden change. Whether it was the wedding getting closer or her great aunt dying or whatever, it didn’t matter, because she was going to be with him no matter what. All her dads told her was that whatever this ‘justification’ was, it was an adult problem and they were handling it. “I don’t know why we can’t know, obviously they think I’m still a little girl, which only makes this entire situation more infuriating. They have no right to say or do what they did, and there’s almost no possible excuse for it other than temporary insanity. I’m frustrated and I don’t want to put up with them when they’re like this,” she said. When Finn asked if they wanted her to come home and if they hated him she shook her head. “Hiram didn’t really mention either of those, or if he did I wasn’t paying much attention to it because of his inability to be direct with me about what’s going on. I’m not going home and I don’t care if they hate you, I love you and that isn’t going to change,” she said. She nodded when he said that they needed to know what was going on, and it wasn’t fair that they wouldn’t tell her. When he pulled her against him she let out a breath that she hadn’t realized she’d been holding, trying to relax since there wasn’t much she could do about this situation anyways. “I love you too. We’ll figure it out eventually, for now I have enough clothes for a couple days and we’ll figure something out. Maybe I’ll take Santana with me if I go get my clothes or something, I don’t think my dads would stand a chance of being able to keep me there,” she said. She was bracing herself for this to be a long, drawn out ordeal, which was stress that she didn’t need, but she had to do what made her happy, and that meant being with Finn.

Finn nodded sadly when Rachel told him that she was worried about her and her dads and he hoped desperately that everything was going to be okay. “I know you’re worried baby but they’re your dads, they love and and even though they might be acting weird right now, that’s never going to change. Your relationship with them will be fine, we just have to figure out what’s going on and I promise I’ll help you fix whatever it is,” he told her, knowing that he was never going to let her give up on trying to make things right with her dads. Once she was ready, they headed downstairs to his mom who stopped what she was doing when she saw the two of them. When his mom sighed as Rachel asked what her dads said to her on the phone earlier, he squeezed Rachel’s hand gently, hoping desperately that whatever it was, wasn’t bad. She was saying something about a situation that they were in and he had absolutely no idea what she was talking about. Once his mom left the room he looked at Rachel and shrugged when she asked him what situation could possibly justify how her dads had been acting. “I have no idea baby… but we have to figure out what’s going on. What if it’s serious?” he asked her, knowing that whatever it is much definitely be important if they were acting so strangely over it. Finn was definitely worried about what it could be, but he knew that not knowing was just going to be worse then knowing. “I know that you probably don’t want to see your dads, but we have to find out what’s going on Rach. I don’t want you to fight with them, I just want everything to go back to normal and the only way we can do that is if we figure out what’s going on. I don’t know if you want to call them or go over there and see them, but either way if you want me with you, I’ll be there,” he told her, looking at her sadly, wrapping his arms around her and pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead, hoping that everything was going to be okay and that they would be able to figure all of this out.
Rachel sighed when Finn said that her dads loved her even if they were acting weird right now, she knew he was right but this whole situation was really hard on her. “Yeah, we’ll figure it out,” she told him. It seemed like all they had been doing lately was figuring things out and dealing with drama, and she was sick of it. She didn’t start this, her dads confronted her about Finn and tried to feed her gross food and introduced her to a creepy cousin that wouldn’t stop hitting on her, and in her mind all of this was their fault. They went downstairs to talk to his mom, and what Carole had to say left Rachel even more worried. What could be so awful that Carole wouldn’t even tell her, or that would actually justify her dads acting the way that they had been? “I don’t know Finn, and I don’t think that considering this hypothetically is going to make me feel any better. All it’s going to lead to is unnecessary stress for both of us,” she said when Finn asked the same question she’d been thinking about. The last thing she wanted to do was talk to her dads, going to her house would mean them potentially trying to ground her again, it would mean them potentially being mean to Finn, it would mean a lot of stress for everyone involved. “Well i don’t know that I can see them without a confrontation right now, given the way that they’ve been acting I can’t think of many acceptable excuses for their behavior. I’ll call, at least that way they can’t try to physically prevent me from leaving. As much as they can yell and scream and be mad, they can’t take me away from you,” she told him. She took a deep breath and pulled out her phone, ignoring countless text messages from her dads telling her to answer the phone when they called. Deciding that Hiram was her best bet - he was really fond of Finn and generally less overprotective, plus he seemed more rational lately in the wake of Leroy’s aunt dying - she called his cell phone, taking a deep breath as she waited for him to pick up. “Rachel?” he answered the phone, very surprised that Rachel had actually called even though they already knew she was safe. ”I just called to find out the reasoning, or supposed reasoning, behind you and your partner’s behavior lately,” she said somewhat coldly, not wanting to come off as emotional or vulnerable and end up getting hurt. Hiram took a deep breath, knowing that there was no easy way to tell her this. “It’s very complicated, but it’s not because of you or anything you did. It’s not because of anything that Finn did or the fact that you’re with him, exactly. This is an adult problem that Leroy and I are handling, you need to let us deal with it and come home,” he said. “No,” she retorted, being as stubborn as a toddler before nap time. “Fine, Rachel, but at least come over for a little while, we’re not going to hold you hostage,” he sighed, and she was so baffled that she just hung up the phone. “Apparently it’s an ‘adult problem’ and they’re handling it,” she told Finn, rolling her eyes and sighing frustratedly.

Finn nodded when Rachel told him that they would do something fun and then deal with things with her dads. “Yeah, not too much more,” he told her with a small smile on his face when she said that four invitations were easy enough. When she told him that if things went south with her family that they still had his, he nodded, looking at her sadly. He wanted more than anything for her to still have her family too and he hoped that things were going to get better with her dads. “Okay baby, that seems easy enough,” he told her with a small smile when she told him what he had to do to the invitations. Finn bit his tongue in concentration as he started helping her do the invitations, punching the holes and tying the ribbons for her, making sure to be as careful as possible so it looked as identical to the example invitation as he could make it. The finished both of them pretty quickly and he smiled once they were done, glad that they had gotten even more things done for the wedding. When she said that she should talk to his mom, he nodded sadly, knowing that this was going to be difficult just based on the expression that had been on his moms face. “I’ll go with you baby, okay? I’ll be right here the whole time and no matter what happens, you’ll always have me, okay?” he told her, knowing that the last thing that he wanted her to worry about was losing him since he wasn’t sure if her dads wanted her to be with him anymore. It was scary to think that they were going to try and take her away from him and he knew that he was going to do whatever it took to make sure that they were always together. “Are you ready Rach?” he asked her, taking her hand in his and lacing their fingers together, squeezing gently, knowing that no matter what he was always going to be there for her.
Rachel and Finn made more invitations for his family, and before long they had four gorgeous, completed ones. Once they were done she didn’t have anymore excuses to procrastinate, she had to talk to his mom about what her dads had said on the phone. “I know but I’m not worried about us right now. I’m worried about me and my dads. Although their behavior lately has been unreasonable and baffling, they’re still family and I don’t want my relationship with them to deteriorate,” she told him. She’d always had a good relationship with her dads, and she wanted to keep it that way, but she doubted that it was possible at this point. By sneaking out she’d already crossed a line, which on top of whatever else they were mad about was probably going to make them not even want her anymore. When he asked if she was ready and took her hand she sighed, nodding hesitantly. “As ready as I’ll ever be,” she told him, getting up from where she was sitting and heading downstairs to find Carole. Finn’s mom was vacuuming the living room, but she shut off the noisy machine when she saw them. “I was wondering what my dads said to you on the phone earlier,” Rachel said, just wanting to get to the point and have this be over with. Carole sighed, and Rachel looked at her worriedly, trying to figure out just how bad things were. “I don’t want to get in the middle of a family matter Rachel. I think you should at least go talk to them. They’re angry about you acting out but I think you need to realize that they’re not trying to upset you. While I don’t agree with what they’re doing, I can understand it given the situation,” Carole said. Rachel took in the news for a few seconds, trying to figure out what that could possibly mean. “I guess you’re right, at the very least I need to go home to get additional clothing at some point anyways if my dads haven’t changed their mind. I’m not living with them if I’m going to be grounded, I didn’t do anything wrong other than protect myself and my relationship,” she said with a sigh. Carole nodded and moved onto cleaning another room, leaving Rachel and Finn in the living room together. “What situation can possibly justify the way that my parents have been acting? What reasonable excuse is there for how they treated me?” she asked Finn somewhat rhetorically. She was frustrated, and while she wanted to get to the bottom of all this she wasn’t so keen on the idea of going to talk to her dads when they were upset with her.

“That sounds good to me baby,” Finn told Rachel with a small smile when she said that she wanted Chinese food for dinner. He knew that it had been a while since she had eaten good food, or eaten in general and he could just tell by her eager nod that she wanted to go out to eat badly. When she told him that she missed him too, he gave her a small smile, nodding when she said that she was happy she was in the same town as him again. “That’s fine baby, we’ll get all the wedding invitations done first,” he said, knowing that he definitely didn’t want to push her to find out what her dads said to his mom until she was ready. This whole situation was stressful for both of them and he honestly had no idea what was going on with her dads or what they were up to, but he hoped that they could find a way to fix everything. “Alright baby, lets go make some invitations,” he told her with a small smile on his face before they cleaned up their food and headed back up to his room. “We just need three more invitations for both my aunts and uncles and one for my grandma,” he told her, giving her a small smile. “I can’t wait to marry you, it’s going to be the best day ever, especially with my whole family there,” he said, looking at her with love in his eyes. He looked at the materials that she was laying out and his eyes scanned over them with a small smile, feeling even more excited about their wedding the closer that it got. Although he was still curious what her dads had said to his mom, he knew that she wanted to forget about it for a little while and he had no problem helping her feel better. “Just tell me what you need me to do baby and I’ll do it,” he said, giving her a small smile, leaning forward and pressing a gentle kiss to her lips before focusing back on the invitations.
Rachel looked at Finn enthusiastically when he said that Chinese food for dinner later sounded good. She was so happy that she was able to have good food again, after a weekend without it she definitely appreciated it more now. They ate breakfast, and she decided she wasn’t ready to ask his mom what her dads had said to her, she wanted to get wedding invitations done first. “That sounds good baby, we’ll do something fun and then deal with things with my dads,” she told him. Once they cleaned up from breakfast they went up to his room, and she started getting out the wedding invitation materials while they talked. “Four invitations, that’s easy enough,” she told him, counting out all the materials for them and sitting down at his desk. She smiled when he said that he couldn’t wait to marry her, especially with his whole family there. “I can’t wait either baby, if things go south with my family at least we still have yours,” she told him, knowing that there was a slight possibility that things with her dads wouldn’t resolve themselves before the wedding and her dads may not come. She hoped it didn’t happen, but she had to start mentally preparing herself for it so that she wouldn’t be too devastated that day. “You’re going to do the bows as I finish them, once they’re written out with the embellishments you’re going to punch holes in the corners and tie through four pieces of ribbon the same way you tie your shoes. I put out an example right there,” she said, gesturing to one that she’d made up as a sample to remind herself how they looked for the purpose of consistency. She took to writing out invitations, and once she had one written out and decorated she passed it to him to do the bows. It didn’t take all that long to get four invitations done, and she decided that they needed to go ask his mom about what her dads had said. “I should go talk to your mom,” she sighed, looking at him sadly. It wasn’t talking to Carole she was worried about, it was finding out the state of things with her dads, of knowing where she stood with them and what they were thinking about all of this.

Finn looked at Rachel sadly when she told him that she hadn’t had a decent, full-sized mean since lunch of Friday. “Well then I guess we’ll have to make sure that you eat just as much as I do today,” he said with a small smirk, pressing a gentle kiss to her cheek. “Maybe I could take you out for dinner tonight, I never got to pick you up like I was supposed to this morning so we can just get dinner anyway,” he told her with a small smile on his face, knowing that taking her out to dinner might also help get her mind off things. Once they were in the kitchen he asked her what she wanted to eat and he nodded when she told him what she wanted for breakfast, grabbing cereal for Rachel as she got herself fruit, sitting down at the table with her and having some cereal himself. When she started eating her food quickly, he smiled at her, glad that she was having something to eat after not eating for so long. “I’m so happy you’re back Rachel, I missed you so much,” he whispered, taking her hand in his and squeezing gently. His mom walked into the kitchen, saying good morning to them with a small smile, although he could tell that it was tense and he wondered what Rachel’s dads had said to her on the phone. He was tempted to ask, but he knew that it wasn’t his place and that Rachel would ask his mom when she was ready. Finn waited for his mom to leave the kitchen and go into the living room with her tea in hand before he started speaking to Rachel. “Baby, are you going to ask her what they said?” he asked her softly, running his thumb gently along the soft skin of her hand. “You don’t have to do anything until you’re ready, I’m just wondering,” he said, looking at her with love in his eyes, knowing that all he wanted to do was fix this whole mess and figure out what was going on with her dads.
Rachel nodded when Finn said that they’d have to make sure she ate as much as him today. When he offered to take her out to dinner she nodded eagerly, food at a real restaurant sounded incredible after a somewhat traumatic weekend with her dads. “I feel like Chinese food for dinner, that place with the really good spring rolls and vegan chow mein. They went down to the kitchen, and she told him what she wanted for breakfast before going to find some fruit in the fridge. Once they had their breakfast they started eating, she was so hungry that she didn’t do much talking because she was eating so fast. “I missed you too baby, I’m so happy I’m in the same town as you again,” she told him. When Carole walked into the kitchen it was clear that she was stressed, although Rachel didn’t know why she assumed it probably had something to do with the conversation with her dads. “Not right now, I want to try to get the wedding invitations done and then we’ll deal with that. I need a few minutes of just being happy with you before we plan how we’re going to deal with things with my dads, we can afford another hour in a little dream world where they don’t exist,” she told him. She nodded when he said that she didn’t have to do anything until she was ready but he was wondering. “I’m ready for making wedding invitations for your side of the family, let’s do that before we talk to your mom,” she said. Once they were done eating she brought their dishes to the sink before going upstairs with him, taking out the invitation making materials from the bag that she’d packed. “How many do we need baby?” she asked him, starting to lay out the materials for each invitation. Of course this was somewhat of a procrastination tactic, but she was being productive and she was only allowing herself two hours before making herself find out what her dads had said to Carole.

Finn gave Rachel a small smile when she told him that she loved him for always making sure that she was okay. He knew that no matter what, she was always going to be her first priority and he was always going to take care of her and make sure that she was happy. They both eventually drifted off to sleep, although her dads calling her cell phone and his house phone ended up waking them both up and they could hear his mom taking in hushed tones on the phone with her dads. “Shh baby don’t say that, nothing is falling apart okay? We’re going to figure this out and make everything better,” he said as he held her tightly in his arms, knowing that he never wanted to let her go. No one was going to take her from him, no matter what he had to do. When she said that she slept pretty good other then her phone and his house phone waking her, he nodded, a small smile on his face at the fact that she had actually gotten some sleep. Finn could feel her relax in his arms slightly when he kissed her and he was glad that he could get her to calm down somewhat so she wasn’t panicked about her dads trying to take her from him. When she said that they had things to talk about and things to do, he nodded, knowing that no matter what she wanted to go or get done that he would do. “Well, since you’re really, really hungry and I always happen to be hungry myself, I think we should start with some breakfast,” he said with a small smile, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead. “We’ll go get some food and maybe figure out what your dads said on the phone if my mom tells us,” he said, stretching slightly before getting out of his bed, holding his hand out for her to take before he headed downstairs into the kitchen with her. “What do you want to eat Rach? Pick anything you want and I’ll make it for you,” he told her, looking at her with a small smile on his face as sat down at the table with her, waiting for her to decide before he started making them some breakfast.
Rachel nodded when Finn said not to say that everything was falling apart and they’d figure everything out, right now she just felt so lost but she knew that they’d get through it the same way that they got through everything else. He held her tightly, which was the only thing holding her together, but she felt a little better now that she’d gotten some decent sleep. Of course things still weren’t okay with her dads, and she was scared about them trying to keep her from Finn, but somehow just being with Finn gave her the faith that things would get better. Him kissing her got her to calm down a little bit, and she relaxed slightly in his arms as they laid together. They had things to do, she couldn’t have their lives stop over something like this again when the wedding was coming up. Doing things would at least make her feel like there was some sense of normalcy, plus it would distract her from worrying so much about things with her dads. “That sounds good baby, I haven’t had a decent, full-sized meal since lunch on Friday,” she told him with a sigh when he said they should start with breakfast. She nodded when he said that they’d get some food and maybe find out what her dads said to his mom, that sounded like a reasonable start to the day to her. They got out of bed and headed to the kitchen together, and she smiled when he said that he’d make her anything to eat that she wanted. “I want a big bowl of fruit and some cereal with soy milk, whatever Kurt has should be fine,” she told him. She got up from the table so they could make breakfast together, going into the fridge and finding that Carole had already made some fruit salad. She took it out and dished herself out a bowlful, grabbing the soy milk for her cereal when she went back in the fridge. Once she had her breakfast she brought the bowls to the table along with a spoon and a fork, and she started eating quickly since she was so hungry. “This is so good, it’s incredible to eat real food again,” she told him before quickly polishing off her breakfast.

Finn nodded sadly when Rachel told him that she was frustrated with her dads. He knew that he was frustrated with them too, he had no idea why they were angry or why they were upset but he hoped desperately that everything could just go back to normal soon. The way that they were treating her was so unlike them and he was nervous that something serious had happened or that they were just now beginning to show their true feelings towards their relationship. When Rachel woke herself up from a nightmare, screaming, he looked at her sadly, although he was glad that his mom said that she could stay as long as she needed to, knowing that he didn’t even want Rachel to go home since he was scared that he wouldn’t be able to see her. Once his mom left the room, he turned his attention back to Rachel, holding her tightly against him. “Good, you know that I’ll always make sure you’re okay,” he said softly, knowing that no matter what happened he was always going to be there for her and keep her safe. When she said that it was just a dream and she wanted him to hold her tight so it didn’t happen again, he nodded, pulling her as close to him as he could, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead, hoping that he could find a way to help her get some sleep and calm her fears. “I’ll never let go of you,” he said softly, running a hand gently through her soft hair. He pressed a gentle kiss to her lips and when she told him that she loved him he gave her a small smile. “I love you too baby, so much,” he whispered, holding her tightly as he watched her slowly fall back to sleep. Once he waited to make sure that she was sleeping peacefully, he eventually fell asleep, not waking up when her cell phone went off, but his arms holding her tightly when she shifted slightly in his arms. When his house phone started ringing, his eyes opened slowly and he looked at Rachel before hearing his mom talking in hushed tones and he could tell that it was her dads based on the conversation, wondering what was going on. “It’s okay baby,” he said softly, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead when she clung to him tightly. He ran his hand up and down her back soothingly, hoping that he could make her feel better in some way. Finn could tell that she was nervous and all he wanted to do was make everything better, he just wanted everything to go back to normal. “Did you get some sleep?” he asked her, bringing a hand up to cup her cheek gently, his thumb brushing across her soft skin. “I love you,” he whispered, pressing a gentle kiss to her lips, hoping that he could help her relax in some way, so she would know that he was always going to be there and no one - not even her dads - could take her away from him.
Rachel woke herself up with a nightmare, which was stressful because she thought she was being pulled away from Finn and it scared her to death. Luckily when Carole came in she was very understanding, telling Rachel that she could stay as long as she needed to while things with her dads were taking their course. “I know baby, I love you for that,” she whispered when he said that she knew he’d always make sure that she was okay. Once his arms were wrapped tightly around her again she eventually managed to fall asleep again, although her cell phone woke her up early the next morning. Still half asleep and not in the mood to talk to her dads, she ignored the call, starting to drift back to sleep before she heard his house phone ring, waking both of them as Carole spoke in hushed tones in another room, clearly talking to her dads. When he said it was okay she looked at him sadly, still clinging to him, trying desperately to relax. “I feel like one family’s falling apart while the other’s coming together,” she told him with a sigh, knowing that at this point trying to hide how she was feeling was futile. She and Finn would be spending even more time than usual together since it looked like she’d be staying here for awhile, and besides he always seemed to know what she was thinking. “Yeah, I slept pretty good other than my phone and your house phone waking me,” she told him, trying to focus on relaxing as he held her and rubbed her back soothingly. “I love you too,” she whispered, sighing against his lips when he kissed her. Just the familiar feeling of his lips on hers got her to calm down somewhat, she was still worried but a lot less panicked, now they just had to figure out everything else and things would be good. “We have things to talk about and things to do, I was able to bring a few things from my house that we can accomplish in addition to clothing and other basic necessities. At some point we should address the cousin fiasco, we have to make some more wedding invitations, and I’m really, really hungry,” she told him.

Finn sighed and nodded when Rachel told him that she didn’t think that her dads had a reason to be mad at him. He knew that he had always gotten along really well with her dads, they had always seemed to like him and welcome him to their family, but suddenly they didn’t and he was scared that they were going to try to take Rachel away from him. “Hey, don’t blame yourself for this baby, you didn’t do anything wrong either, okay? Maybe they’re just scared because the wedding is coming up soon and they’re realizing that you’re growing up or something,” he suggested, hoping that maybe it was just some weird parent thing that they were going through. He held her tightly when she snuggled against him, knowing that he never wanted to let her go. When she told him not to let her dads take her away, he looked at her sadly, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead. “No one will ever take you away from me. You’re mine,” he whispered, tightening his hold on her, knowing that no matter what he was always going to be with her, he was never going to let her go. When she fell asleep, he ran his hand gently through her hair. Finn was slowly starting to let himself relax but before he could go to sleep, Rachel started yelling and he held her tightly when she started clinging to him. “Baby, wake up, it’s okay, I’m right here,” he said softly, looking at her sadly when she woke up and let out a sigh of relief when she saw him. “I’m right here,” he whispered, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead and holding her close. When he looked up and saw his mom run into the room, obviously having no idea what was going on he sighed, holding Rachel tightly against him as she told him mom that she had a nightmare. Carole let out a sigh of relief that neither of them were hurt and she looked at Rachel sadly when she explained her situation. “You know that you’re always welcome here honey, you’re family now. You can stay here as long as you need to, but make sure you at least tell your dads that you’re here tomorrow morning, okay? They at least need to know where you are so they’re not worried. I don’t know what’s going on or why your dads suddenly disapprove of your relationship, but we’ll figure all of this out soon. Right now, the both of you need to try and get some sleep. Goodnight,” Carole said, giving both of them a small smile before she left the room. “Thanks mom, goodnight,” he said before pressing a gentle kiss to Rachel’s cheek, looking at her sadly. “Are you okay baby?” he asked her, running his hand gently up and down her back, hoping that everything was going to be okay. “No one is going to take you away from me, I promise. I’m right here and you’re in my arms and nothing is going to change that,” he said softly, pressing a gentle kiss to her lips.
Rachel didn’t think that her dads had a reason to be upset with Finn, or with her for that matter, and this whole situation was upsetting to her. “I don’t know baby, I’m not saying it’s my fault. They’re upset without a decent reason, and I’m frustrated with them,” she said when he told her that this wasn’t her fault. She snuggled against him, and she smiled when he said that she was his and no one could ever take her away from him. Despite his assurances she woke up yelling in her sleep during a nightmare where she was being pulled away from him, her dads were trying to separate them and it was terrifying. She let out a sigh of relief when she realized that it was just a nightmare, although apparently it had been enough to frighten pretty much everyone in the house since Carole came rushing in. Of course Rachel had to explain herself, that she’d just had a nightmare and that her dads grounded her but she snuck out, she was eighteen and her dads were trying to keep her from the love of her life. “Yeah, I’ll let them know, or get someone to let them know for me. I don’t think they need to know where I am, just that I’m safe,” she said when Carole told her to let her dads know where she was in the morning. She nodded in agreement when Carole told them that they’d figure things out soon but right now they all needed to get some sleep, she knew that being overtired from not sleeping at the motel wasn’t helping her think clearly in this situation at all, especially because she was so emotional. She watched Carole leave before pulling herself against Finn, looking at him sadly. “I will be,” she whispered when he asked if she was okay. Right now she was managing to keep it together, but with the way that things were going she knew that could change at any moment, especially given the volatile situation with her dads. His hand on her back got her to relax a little bit as he held her, obviously trying to get her to calm down so that they could both get to sleep. “I know baby it was just a dream. Hold me really tight so it doesn’t happen again, I don’t want to wake your parents when I’m already imposing on their hospitality,” she told him when he assured her that no one was going to take her away from him. When he kissed her she sighed against his lips, wishing that things could be easier for them right now. “I love you,” she whispered, holding onto him tightly as she started to calm down, her body relaxing and her brain getting groggy. She finally fell back to sleep in his arms, managing to sleep through the night until her phone went off early the next morning. Still half asleep, she saw that it was her dads and quickly shut it off before cuddling against Finn again. Just as she was falling asleep again Finn’s house phone rang, and she could hear Carole talking in a hushed tone from a nearby room, and it became clear from the conversation that her dads had the nerve to call Finn’s house looking for her. Once Carole hung up Rachel clung to Finn tightly, half expecting her dads to come bursting through the doors to grab her. They didn’t, of course, but she was still worried, to the point where it was a struggle to stop herself from imagining all the possible worst-case scenarios.

“I’m so sorry that you had to be there baby, that’s horrible,” Finn told Rachel when she said that the motel she had been staying in was in a horrible neighborhood and it was something right out of a horror movie. When she started crying he held her closely, hating that she was experiencing so much pain from what was happening. Once she stopped crying as he held her closely, pressing a gentle kiss to the top of her head. When she told him that she loved him, he gave her a small smile, holding her tightly as she clung to him, knowing that right now they needed each other more than anything. Finn smiled when he got Rachel to smile as he kissed the tip of her nose, glad that he could make things a little easier for her. When she told him that she couldn’t go home back now, he nodded, looking at her sadly when she said that she had a feeling that he might not be welcome in her house. He had always been welcome in her house, he practically lived there and now that he suddenly wouldn’t even be allowed in there made him feel like shit, wondering what he had done wrong to get her dads to hate him. “I hope that we can figure out what’s going on. Did I do something wrong? Is that why they hate me, because I did something wrong?” he asked her, looking at her sadly, wishing that he could fix all of this somehow. When she snuggled against him, he held her tightly, knowing that he never wanted to let her go. Just knowing that his relationship with Rachel could be threatened scared him and he knew that no matter what he was going to be with her, no one could take her away from him not even her own dads. “I love you too baby,” he whispered, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead as he held her closely against him. When she yawned, he looked at her with a small smile on his face, running his hand gently through her soft hair. “Go to sleep baby, we’ll figure everything out in the morning,” he said softly, hoping that maybe they could find a way to make everything better. He wanted everything to be okay and although he knew they were going to have to deal with her dads in the morning when they found out Rachel wasn’t home, he was glad that at least everything was okay now. Right now he was with Rachel and that was all that mattered, because he knew that everything was fine was long as they had each other.
Rachel cried against Finn’s chest, becoming overwhelmed by everything with her dads. Eventually she managed to stop and regain her composure, but it was still hard for her to make sense of what was going on with her dads interfering in her relationship with Finn. At this point she didn’t even care about the logic, or lack thereof, behind it, but she needed to know how this was going to play out in order to figure out things for the wedding. He managed to get her to smile by kissing the tip of her nose, but she still wished that things with her dads could be easier. This was the last thing they needed after all they’d been through, and she just wanted things to be perfect before the wedding. “No baby, you didn’t do anything wrong that I know of. They’ve never cared about the sex, you’re polite, you don’t smoke, I don’t think that they have a reason to be mad at you,” she told him when he asked if her dads hated him because he had done something wrong. “I don’t know if it’s even about you baby, honestly I think that it’s more likely I did something that upset them, although I’ve been unable to determine what it is thus far,” she told him. She snuggled against him, trying to relax despite everything that was going on. After a very long weekend she was emotionally and physically exhausted, and she found herself yawning and struggling to stay awake. “Don’t let my dads take me away,” she whispered, looking at him brokenly. In her half awake, emotionally volatile state she was so afraid of her dads splitting them up, and there was no way that she could let that happen. She finally managed to fall asleep, but she woke up during a nightmare that her dads were pulling her away from Finn. “No! You can’t! I love him!” she yelled, clinging to Finn tightly as she shook with fear. The sound of her own voice woke her up, and she breathed a huge sigh of relief when she saw that Finn was still right beside her. Upon hearing he yelling Carole came running into the room, having no idea what was going on since she didn’t even know Rachel was there. “Rachel? Finn? What’s going on?” she asked, looking at them worriedly. “I-I had a nightmare,” Rachel offered, knowing that between her and Finn they were gonna have to tell Carole what was going on. “I’m sort of grounded and I snuck out because my dads are trying to set me up with a gross pre-med student who happens to be a rich cousin. I came here because I didn’t know where else to go. My dads have been acting really weird and legally I’m not a minor so there’s really nothing that they can do,” she said, looking at Carole sheepishly.

The entire day without talking to Rachel had made Finn not only bored, but completely worried about her. He didn’t know what was going on with her dads, but he was scared that something was wrong, that he had done something wrong. Of course no matter what he was going to be with Rachel, she was the love of his life and there was no way that he was ever going to let her go, but he wanted her dads at the wedding, he wanted them in her life and he felt horrible if he was going to be the cause of her fighting with her family. He spoke with his mom and she definitely made him feel a little bit better, but he could tell that she thought Rachel’s dads behavior was out of the ordinary too. It just didn’t make sense that they went from liking him and being one hundred percent behind their wedding from disapproving of him to the point that they didn’t even want Rachel speaking to him. Something was wrong and he wasn’t sure if he had done something or if they had always felt like this and it was just suddenly beginning to show itself.
Finn fell asleep once he laid down on his bed, completely exhausted from not sleeping at all the night before and when he woke up with Rachel next to him, he thought that he was dreaming. When she laughed as he looked at her in shock, he smiled, so happy that she was really there, this wasn’t a dream, she was really in his arms. “I missed you too, I missed you so much baby,” he whispered, holding her closely against him before his lips pressed against hers, knowing that he had missed her so desperately. Just the fact that she was here was making him feel like everything was okay again, like he didn’t have to worry anymore. When they pulled away and she was suddenly crying into his chest, he wrapped his arms around her tightly, pressing a gentle kiss to the top of her head as his hand ran up and down her back gently. “Shh baby, it’s okay. I missed you too but I’m here now, I’m right here and I’m not going anywhere,” he said softly, wishing that things weren’t so confusing with her dads right now. They were both completely confused and caught off guard with their behavior and as scared as he was that they were going to try and keep them apart, he knew that he couldn’t ever let her go. When told him to promise her that no matter what her dads did or said that they were going to make this work, he gave her a small smile and nodded. “I promise you that no matter what happens, this will always work. I love you Rachel and I’m not going to let you go, okay? I love you so much,” he whispered, looking deeply into her eyes before pressing his lips against hers, sighing contently, knowing that this was where they belonged, together. When he pulled away, he wiped away her tears gently, pressing a soft kiss to the tip of her nose, giving her a small smile. “I don’t know what’s going on with them, but you can stay here with me as long as you want to. We’re going to figure this out together no matter what. We’re gonna get married, we’re going to go to New York and live in our tiny apartment, no one is ever going to tear us apart, okay? No one can make me let go of you,” he whispered, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead. He took her hand in his and ran his thumb gently over the engagement ring that rested on her finger before pressing his lips against it softly. “This is forever, you and me, okay baby? Forever,” he said softly, knowing that right now she needed his reassurance more than anything. The fact that her dads could be against their relationship was scary and he knew that she needed him to let her know that no matter what happened, he was never going to let her go.
Rachel snuck into Finn’s room, she wasn’t letting her dads keep them apart. “I know baby it was awful being away from you. I was so miserable, and that motel, I can’t even describe how awful it was. I didn’t tell you think while I was there because I knew you’d worry, but it was in an awful neighborhood, it was dirty, and I felt like I was in a horror movie every time I went into the hallway,” she told him. All of her emotions about what had happened, what was happening now, what was going to happen, hit her all at once and overwhelmed her to the point that she started crying into his chest. “I know,” she choked out when he said that he was there now and things would be okay, it wasn’t so much that she was upset about the present as she was overwhelmed by everything else in her life, all the bad things that seemed to almost disappear once she was with him again. She managed to stop crying, but she kept clinging to him because she was afraid that otherwise they’d be separated again and she couldn’t deal with that right now. Being without him had been so hard, and now that she was in his arms again she didn’t want to ever leave. This was too important to her, it wasn’t something that she could just give up. “I love you too,” she whispered, still clinging to him, although her grip loosened once he reassured her that he wasn’t going to let her go. When he kissed her she sighed contently against his lips, knowing that being with him right now was all that she needed right now. As long as his arms were around her she was safe, she would be okay as long as they were together. He wiped her tears away, and she smiled when he kissed the tip of her nose. “Okay, I can’t go back home right now, not without assurances that I won’t be grounded. Plus I have a feeling that even after that you may not be welcome in my house, in which case I don’t want to be there either. It was just hard to believe that from hundreds of miles away, it felt like everything was falling apart. Between my dads being irritating and the whole debacle with my cousin it was just too much,” she told him. She snuggled closer to him, her head snuggled in the spot between his shoulder and chest where she was always so comfortable. “I love you,” she whispered, a small yawn escaping her lips. She was so tired, even though she’d taken a nap the weekend had been emotionally and physically exhausting.
